Had my in the shop for a while to get the brakes converted to Vacuum. After I got it back, it seems strange. It feels like I am spinning the tires all the time, until it hooks up. There is a strange smell and intermitent groaning sound from what seems like the torque converter. It is also slow to go into gear. Any ideas?

Any ideas?is it the slow going into rev.? the only way to tell whats going on is to drop the pan. we are looking for clutch or metal. were these guys out driving your car?

Little to no test drive, they said and I can trust the guys at Vernons. I guess the pan has to be dropped to investigate.

I finally was able to take the time to drop the pan. Fluid was in decent shape, no matal shavings. Shifts into 'R' just fine, just a little slow, it's real slow in shifting into 'D' or 'O'. The trans seems sluggish when it finally goes into gear. I have cleaned out the pan real good, new filter, and gasket. I hope this makes a difference.

Put it all back together, trans shifts into gear fine now. Problem is if I put any throttle into it the trans seems to just spin, little to no power to the rear end. There is also a groaning sound, from what sounds like the torque converter. Does this sound like it is the torque converter? Never had one go bad on me before.

It seemed to be more like sludge. Mostly around the magnet at the bottom of the pan. Did not feel like metal, but it very well could have been.

Did the shop who did the work disconnect the TV cable from your throttle linkage? Sounds to me like you are not getting any line pressure. Brian

Probably did. I will have to check it out. Thank you. I don;t want to buy anything if I don't need it. Everything worked great before I took it in, except the brakes. I would think there would have been some sign, before this drastic change in behavior.

Well, I adjusted the TV cable and it still has a lot of trouble moving with any power. I just spins most of the time. Once in awhile it graps, but with little power to the tranny or rear end. Torque Converter? IT does seem to be leaking a little.
