A few weeks ago I noticed my SES light coming on and my car not running quite right. It was missing and not wanting to idle while in gear, so I changed the plug wires and the plugs but that did nothing. So I jumped the wire and found out it was a code 42 the EST. I was wondering if some one can tell me where the EST is or how to fix it. Any pics would be nice.

Try looking it up here. http://www.gnttype.org/maint/8485sens.html

No way to fix the EST. Just replace when you determine it is bad. Sounds like you have a manual of some kind. Try this site and review the trouble code descriptions..... http://www.vortexbuicks-etc.com/ ....... Hope this helps.

I do have a manual but it did not tell me a whole lot. I was wondering if a bad altenator could cause this code because it just went out yesterday.

Can not answer that. Replace the alternator (If you haven't yet), re-set the ECM and you'll know if a bad alternator can cause this.
