Greetings! I have recently reported to the fleet warfare training center to learn about sonar operations! I transferred here after a short stay in Chicago.
The problem I have is that I have a fuel leak - I have had it ever since I left North Carolina on Jan 5th! But once I was in Chicago, I couldn't pretend to ignore it anymore, but they transferred me before I could get around to making the necessary repairs...so, I drove all the way from Chicago to San Diego dripping a little fuel all the way, praying that my car didn't catch on fire!!!
Somehow, my fuel line started rubbing on the frame and eventually grinded a hole in the fule line. This would be the section between the fuel tank and the fuel filter, more specifically, from the fuel filter back to the next flexible hose connection above the rear axle.
Anyone know how hard/easy it is to pull that old line off? Anyone know of a parts car that can donate that section of tubing to replace mine?
Any Brutal Six guys keeping an eye on this section?
Hope to hear from someone! Thanks!

There's a huge number of Buick guys in Southern California- Gary Wells, Ledzeppac (Phil the phreak!), XxDARKSIDExX, Lou Czarnota come to mind,. Get ahold of Don Wang at DRW Transmissions in Santee http://www.drwtransmission.com/
He's a great guy, and will get you to the right people to do the repair, if he doesn't do it himself. The repair itself shouldn't be too hard.
Used to stationed at FCTFCPAC, doing Tomahawk stuff.
Should be an easy fix with a union.. Hell, worse comes to worse, just cut it out, flare it and put a piece of fuel injection hose in there and clamp it down. It's ghetto but it should work as good as any other fix.
I seriously doubt youre going to be able to get that line out of the car without raising the body and even then Im not sure you'd be able to do it.

what is your opinion on using J-B weld? It's only a pinhole leak at this point. One person has suggested it. I've never tried it, but it would seem like the easiest fix - if it works...

Greg, call Don at DRW transmissions - look him up on the web. He's in Santee - maybe a 20 minute drive from Point Loma. He's doing full-service repairs now.
I wouldn't try the JB Weld on that. You might try some high pressure hose like Jay says, or maybe a compression fitting.

No.. although I did repair a hole about 2x2 in an oil pan with JB Weld that held for years, I wouldnt try it with a fuel line.

whelp, DRW doesn't answer their phone on the weekends, but once I get done surfing the net (checking emails, etc) I'll call back and leave a message. If I can, I'd like to try and find someone with a parts car and see if I can crawl under and take the fuel line out without too much difficulty. If so, then it shouldn't be too hard to swap out my bad line with the good line. If not, then it'll be one of the other suggestions. Luckily, I don't need to drive the car every day, so I have the luxury of taking my time (somewhat)
Thanks for all responses so far, as well as future responses not yet made!:icon16:

Are you telling me that turd made it to California?!?! If the car was leaking fuel before you left, why didn't you bring it by here and fix it?

I truely didn't realize I was leaking fuel when I left NC... When I went to swap out my exhaust manifold, I could see the fuel dripping off of frame, and thus, I felt that the time for "ignoring" the leak had come to an end. But soon I had to leave Great Lakes, I thought about fixing the leak before I left (one way or another) or getting myself a different car. In the end I made the decision to see if the car would make it to Kali...
Yes, I am telling you that "turd" made it to California - I'm tempted to "give" it to you just to see how you would get it back to Chapel Hill. Of course, my first plan will be to drive it to my next duty station, especially since I now have fixed the fuel leak!:rockwoot:
