hows everyone doing? i'm new to this website but have owned my turbo t for about three years now. i have two questions. first with the translator plus do I need to have an extender chip for full potential, or can i stay with my two precision chips, street chip, 20 degrees timing, and my race chip 26 degrees timing, 110 octane plus, and also leaving these chips in can i still change timing just by turning a button on the translator. Second, what do i set my fuel pressure at when on the street or at the track, usually keep it at 46-47 pounds with vaccum line off. but 02's at around 820-830, a little rich
Car has basic mods, 009 inj, tA49 turbo, home ported and polished heads,218 flat tappet cam, mild trans build with vigilante converter, and casv4 stock location intercooler. Any knowledgable info would be great getting a little tired of blowing head gaskets. Thanks

I don't have any experience w/the translater there but as far as the FP goes, it all depends on the chip really. Everyone's is a little different, Most chips that I've had have always said to start at 45 and tune from there. 45# is a good starting point. With my ta49/blue tops, my car liked being at 39lbs....I run my current car w/50s and a t63e at 42lbs.... I dont think you'll find a definate answer here.

I would contact Bob Bailey about messing with the T+ settings with other chips. Wierd things can happen with chips not designed to receive altered signals like the T+ produces.

I turned up the fuel with my Translator (only 3%) and Red Armstrong chip and the car fell on its face. It would NOT do a burnout to save its life.

This is why Bob felt the need to produce his Spark Translator I believe, because it IS designed to work with any chip, not just the Extender. You will not get the full potential of the T+ without the Extender IMO

The thing to remember about the Translator and Translator + is that some features work with any chip, while others are designed to utilize the Extender chip.

What comes to mind is the MAF BASE setting. This of course must be set to match the MAF you've decided to run (settings 0,1,2 for the 3.5" LS1 MAF, settings 3,4,5 for the 3" LT1 MAF, and settings 6,7,8 for the 4" LS6 MAF).

The MAF WOT switch is the one specifically designed to be used with the Extender chip, simply because if you're not running an extender, your maf is going to hit it's top limit of 255 very quickly and cannnot any longer regulate fuel deliver with any degree of accuracy at that point... The Extender in essence removes that limit, so at that point the MAF WOT switch will allow changes to WOT fuel deliver based on accurate MAF readings.

Trying to adjust the MAF WOT switch with a standard (non extender) chip probably wont have much if any affect, or may very well have some detramental affect.

As for the Translator +, it adds two more adjustments for timing, Timing BASE and Timing WOT. When properly wired in both these adjustments can be used to tailor your timing curve in almost any situation. Basically, giving you the choice of street timing and race timing in one chip setup. Of course to take advantage of these features, you'd want the Extender chip so you can also tailor your WOT fuel curve with the timing changes you made. And with the addition of all the new features in the Extenders, you have almost a limitless availability of tuning features available to you.

Jmidolo when you mean set it around 45 psi, do you mean with the vaccum line on or off, and should i plug the vaccum line also?

Yes, that's usually the recommended starting point for "most" chips. Vac line off, put your finger over it to plug the vac leak...set to 45 and tune from there...
