I'm sure somebody has done dyno tests on this, but, Is there an advantage to using a 3" style single exhaust or using a dual exhaust style system. Seems like there might be a slight edge to the single in the weight area.
Any info or advise appreciated! I'm looking at this for my 80 Camino with 87 GN running gear. I drove car back from Calif to Dallas/Ft Worth area of Tx, at 75+ mph, 3rd tank of gas averaged above 25mpg! I plan on starting some "recipe" applications soon.--Thanks again! Steve

I have run a single 3" exhaust on my car and love it. Its quite tame. I used a Dyno max muffler with a resonator and its not loud at all. Been pulled over quite a few times for being in the wrong place at the wrong times last year (street racing) and never got any tickets for improper muffler. I like the single 3" exhaust because it clears my wolfe bar with tailpipes on (the driverside tailpipe is a dummy just for astetic reasons) without touching.

Well, it sounds like a split decision! Maybe more info on my application will help a bit. I live in an area where (because of the age of the vehicle-1980) I don't have to smog the vehicle. So my thought is to get rid of the cat, and the stock style single into a split dual exhaust, and replace with something that will not attract attention-but still have the sound of "don't mess with me!' Then I will start with the engine mods (bolt on stuff 1st)--Thanks again for the opinions!

No.
It is a cat back exhaust, splits into 2 2.5" pipes/mufflers.
I am sure there are pictures of it online if you do a search.
???? true dual exhuast is all the way back if it splits at the cat that would make it split right?h

If you want quiet, it's about the systems internal volume. Dual 3s are gonna be quietier then a single. But, there is alot more gas volume to get moving.....
I have an ATR Single Shot, with the Pitbull muffler where the cat would be, then an ultraflow where the pit should have been, then with a dump right in front of the rear axle. Not the quietest in the world, but, IMO, a nice compromise.

I had a local muffler shop make the 3'' piping for me and i put a Moroso spiral flow muffler where the cat would be, then a Hooker aero chamber muffler in the normal location. It is quiet!

I'm considering to install a Warlock in place of the cat then possibly a second one before the axle.
Anyone with experience using the Warlock with the turbo V6?

Damn that a great idea bruce!!
I took the Pit Bull Muffler out cause it was so damn load! I got an Ultra Flow and it is 100% quieter!
I also run a dump at the axle do to the air bag getting melted from the heat of the 3" tail pipe (Yes I had a Sheild on the bag also still melted a hole in it)
I may try adding the Pit bull up front in place of the dump pipe I never use :D

I had a single 3" ATR, and couldn't wait to get rid of it. Dual Ultra Flos are the ticket for me.
The ATR would resonate your fillings out......

Warlock muffers are peices of crap they rust from the inside out (im in arizona and they still rusted), if you want a real muffler get a dynomax race magnum or a magnaflow muffler, as for cut out(s) go to mooneyes.com, they have a bad ass electric cut out you can control with the flip of the switch, that way the cops never catch you

+2 dynomax ultraflows. Quiet system. Just a hit of rumble. Love it. I had a sinlge 3 inch with an areochamber muffler. I thought I would need to buy a sub to drown out the noise. Plus I race through the full exhaust with a 129 trap speed. The way I look at it, its a street car and not a race car, so it better perform without a dump.
